I'll be honest: when Chapter 5 Season 4 dropped, I treated the NPC reshuffle like background noise. That lasted about two matches. I kept getting shredded by players who knew exactly where to buy shields, hire medics, and grab mythic weapons. Even now, in 2026, I still see questions about this Chapter 5 Season 4 map when it pops up in creative throwbacks or private lobbies. So think of this as my messy-but-honest field notes from the season.

What NPCs Actually Are

In Fortnite, NPCs are Non Playable Characters you can talk to and purchase items from. They are not just set dressing. They are more like the island's circulatory system: gold bars flow into them, and weapons, shields, movement, or backup flow out. If you ignore them, you are essentially running around with a wallet full of potential and no way to spend it.

Available services include:

  • Recruit

  • Weapons

  • Movement items

  • Patch Up

  • Health or Shield Consumables

The Four Recruitable Specialist Flavors

Some NPCs can join your squad, and they are not all cut from the same cloth. Hiring one is like choosing which tool to pull out of a very aggressive Swiss Army knife.

  • Scout Specialist: Pings nearby chests, ammo boxes, and enemies every 30 seconds or so. If you are the type who lands in a named location and immediately gets third-partied from a bush, this is your new best friend. They turn an uncertain rotation into a map with cheat notes.

  • Supply Specialist: Randomly drops ammo for you and your teammates, and sometimes splashes or movement items. I used to run dry in long fights; this NPC is like the friend who always has a spare phone charger, except the charger is bullets.

  • Blast Specialist: Brings explosives and fires them at your enemies. It is basically like having a portable fireworks show aimed at the other squad, and it can flush people out of boxes.

  • Medic Specialist: Throws splashes at you and your teammates when your shields or health are low. Hiring one is like dragging a garden sprinkler of shields into a gunfight.

All NPC Locations And Services

Here is the full roster I tracked after the September 2024 update. Captain Jones moved locations, so do not trust old muscle memory.

NPC Location Services Cost
Artemis Underworld Railroad Notes incomplete; two services available 200 Gold Bars / 300 Gold Bars
Brite Raider Small outcropping south of Megalo Depot Notes incomplete; two services available 100 Gold Bars / 300 Gold Bars
Captain Jones Small house south of Restored Reels Patch Up / Monarch Pistol / Captain America Shield 100 / 300 / 300 Gold Bars
Gwenpool Reckless Railways, western side Patch Up / Gwenpool's Dual Micro SMGs (Mythic) / Shockwave Grenades x2 100 / 600 / 100 Gold Bars
Centurion Island north of Doomstadt Recruit: Supply Specialist / Monarch Pistol / Striker Burst Rifle 200 / 300 / 300 Gold Bars
Heroic Hope Sandy Steppes Monarch Pistol / Striker Burst Rifle 300 / 300 Gold Bars
Nisha Snooty Station, north of Sandy Steppes Flowberry Fizz / Combat Assault Rifle 100 / 300 Gold Bars
Peabody Pea Bois HQ, northwest of Redline Rig Shield Bubble Jr. / Hammer Pump Shotgun 120 / 300 Gold Bars
Peelverine Restored Reels Patch Up / Activate Rift 100 / 250 Gold Bars
Ruckus Lil' Dirty Dock, southeast of Redline Rig Recruit: Blast Specialist / Hammer Pump Shotgun 200 / 300 Gold Bars
Rust Reclaimed Villa, southwest of The Raft Shockwave Grenades x2 / Sovereign Shotgun 100 / 300 Gold Bars
Shuri Gas station east of Nitrodome Rift To Go / Bandage x5 / FlowBerry x2 250 / 125 / 50 Gold Bars
Triage Trooper Pier southwest of Grand Glacier Recruit: Medic Specialist / Hyper SMG 200 / 300 Gold Bars
War Machine Latverian Station, southwest of Doom's Courtyard Shield Bubble Jr. / Combat Assault Rifle 120 / 300 Gold Bars

A few field notes I would give any player dropping into this season:

  • Gwenpool's Mythic Dual Micro SMGs are expensive at 600 gold bars, but if you have the bars and a squad that can cover you while you shop, she is a monster pickup.

  • Captain Jones is weirdly versatile because he sells the Captain America Shield. That thing can eat bullets like a vacuum cleaner eats dust.

  • Peelverine's Activate Rift for 250 gold bars is a great escape hatch if you are caught in a bad rotation.

  • War Machine at Latverian Station is a sleeper pick for midgame: Shield Bubble Jr. plus Combat Assault Rifle means you can shield up and box fight without waiting for loot RNG.

  • Shuri is more of a convenience store than a weapon shop, but Rift To Go, bandages, and FlowBerries can save a rotation.

One small gap: my original notes for Artemis at Underworld Railroad lost the exact service label, but if she offers Recruit, she may be the Scout Specialist. The other three specialists are clearly covered by Centurion, Ruckus, and Triage Trooper.

Final thought: gold bars are like battery power for your squad. Without them, you are just a backpack with legs. With the right NPC, you are a squad with a plan.
